Description:
Film Screening and Discussion with Producer/Director Stephen Apkon Please join us on Thursday, September 14 at 7PM for a community screening of the film “Disturbing the Peace” which documents the evolution and work of the organization Combatants for Peace. This organization is comprised of Israeli soldiers, many from elite units of the IDF, as well as Palestinians who have served prison sentences in Israel, who have joined together to seek a non-violent end to the Israeli Palestinian conflict. Disturbing the Peace was a New York Times Critics Pick, an official selection in the Jerusalem International Film Festival, and the winner of the Ebertfest Humanitarian Award. The screening will be followed by a Q & A with the film’s
producer and director, Stephen Apkon. The screening is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. This event is sponsored by members of the BEKI Israel Study Group (BISG) along with the Social Action Committee of Congregation Mishkan Israel. The BISG was formed in the spring of 2016 by BEKI members who love Israel and wish to support it as a Jewish and a democratic state. The group seeks to learn about the problems Israel faces and to support groups who bravely and creatively take on those challenges. We welcome all BEKI members who wish to participate. If you would like to be on our email list, please contact Steve Fraade (steven.fraade@yale.edu). In the meantime, tell your friends about the film screening and we hope to see you at the movie.
