Description:
Jay Bright will be showing two juxtaposing projects, one starting in 2005 and ending in 2012 inspired by Andre Durain's paintings of London. These paintings started as watercolors, until they became heavily overlaid with gouache, more watercolors, and pastels. Bright then made larger paintings, adding "improbable" details, intense color juxtapositions, to create a hyper-real, deeply personal texture.

In contrast to these paintings, Bright will also be hanging a series of paintings featuring the American flag, starting on Memorial Day in 2000. What started as a meditation of the role of Bright's father as a leader of a bomb demolition squad turned civil servant for the army has become an exploration of the current political climate.

Come enjoy these paintings during our opening reception on April 8th at Da Silva Gallery on Whalley Avenue from 3-6, or during business hours until April 29th!
