Join us for our monthly storytime event! Each month, we read a story, sing songs, and do an art activity inspired by the exhibition on view. This month, many of the photographs in the exhibition VANISHING, by Penrhyn and Rod Cook, were taken in Kenya, so we chose MAMA MITI written by Donna Jo Napoli and illustrated by Kadir Nelson. MAMA MITI is based on the true story of the first African woman, Wangari Muta Maathai, to win the Nobel Peace Prize, primarily for her work in starting The Green Belt Movement, a national grassroots organization to combat the deforestation of Kenya. We begin each event with an art activity as families arrive, and break for story and songs at approximately 10:20am, with the option to return to art making afterward. Light refershments are served. Free and open to all!
