Closing Event: Sunday, April 22nd, 1pm-4pm, w/ Artist Talk @ 2pm The work in Marjorie Wolfe’s latest collection of photographs was either composed on a recent trip to Italy, or on her favorite island, Martha’s Vineyard. All are spare, simple compositions presented in similar formats. Wolfe explains: “Panoramas and composite photographs are meant to unfold a wide world where separate images are arranged to form a single view. … They show more than what our eyes let us see in one glance, but that we know is there.” Similarly, Tom Edwards’ ever-evolving multimedia artworks “are not intended to represent any single moment in time, but rather to assimilate multiple moments and observations into a dynamic experience.” Edwards states that most of these works have been produced over an extended period of time, which allows for a constant reworking: “I think of [the works] as open-ended compositions … Time affects everything, including the way I perceive my own work.” Marjorie Gillette Wolfe has been a photographer for four decades, and was an art teacher for 37 years. A New Haven native, her work often centers on structures, landscape, organic processes, and the environments in which they occur. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Rhode Island School of Design and a Master’s degree from Wesleyan University. Wolfe was a 2012 recipient of the CT Artist Fellowship. He was awarded the Elizabeth Canfield Hicks Honorary Award in Drawing. His work has been exhibited extensively, and is held in numerous collections such as: Metropolitan Museum of Art (NYC), Library of Congress (DC), Smithsonian Collection (DC), The New Britain Museum of American Art (CT) and the Boston Printmakers Permanent Collection. The artist talks are presented by ArtEcon Initiative and made possible with support from the City of New Haven Mayor's Community Arts Grants Program, and the Department of Economic and Community Development CT Office of the Arts, which also receives support from the National Endowment of the Arts, a federal agency.
