Experience the Art of Pastels

Description: 

Youth ages 11-14 years old are invited to join pastel artist Kate Henderson for this FREE introduction to pastels and beyond. Participants will learn the basics of using soft pastels, including application, blending, and underpainting techniques. Participants will also explore different papers, types of pastels, and proper cleaning and care of materials. The class will focus on fun drawing exercises emphasizing color and valued relationships and end with a final drawing from life. No experience necessary. Pre-registration required as class size is limited. All materials included for class use. Pastel sets can be purchased to take home for $5 at the end of class.

Kate Henderson received her MFA in painting and printmaking from Yale University and a BFA in painting and a BA in art history at Indiana University. She is recognized for her pastels and is featured in Exhibeo Art Magazine. Her work has been shown at Creative Tech week NY, The Lumen Prize global tour at The Auditorium on Broadway NY, Degas Society in New Orleans, New Haven Lawn Club, NEST in Bridgeport CT, Ridgefield Camera Works, Franklin Street Works in Stamford CT, BRAG at the University of Bridgeport Schelfhaudt Gallery, Bridgeport CT, Connecticut Hospice, Creative Arts in New Haven, Yale-Sterling Library, and Art Place in New Haven.
