Description:

Join artist Chris Ferguson for this FREE 3-hour painting workshop. No experience necessary. Most supplies included (see link for details).

About the Workshop: During the warmer months, workshops are outdoors painting from life, while during the cooler months, workshops will take place indoors. Under controlled settings, participants will use reference photographs to create landscape paintings. Rather than copy photos, students will work on translating the image onto the canvas the way the eye actually sees. Instruction will focus on value, color temperature, drawing, color mixing, and other basic aspects of painting. Reference landscape photographs will be available, or you can bring your own.

Eligibility: This workshop free and open to all skill levels, from beginners and hobbyists, to those with ample experience. Preregistration is required as space and materials are limited. Young adults are welcome, but those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Please Note: If you register and do not show up, unless you notify us with the reason, you may be restricted from future free opportunities.

About the Instructor: Chris Ferguson remembers enjoying drawing ever since he was a small child. During high school, he attended E.C.A. (Educational Center for the Arts) in New Haven, CT, an experience that he says allowed him to explore his creativity in new ways. He then went on to earn a degree in Illustration from Paier College of Art in Hamden, CT, with the intention of embarking on a career in children's book illustration. However, he quickly realized his heart belonged to fine art, and has been painting and exhibiting his work for the last 20+ years. His work has been shown in local venues in and around New Haven, including DaSilva Gallery and Kehler Liddell Gallery. Currently, his primary focus is on local scenery and landscapes.

This workshop is presented by ArtEcon Initiative (www.ArtEconInitiative.org), whose mission is to produce free, or low cost, accessible arts and community programs in the Westville-West Rock neighborhoods of New Haven, CT.

THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS! This workshop is made possible with support from the Pincus Family Foundation, NewAlliance Foundation, The Community Foundation of Greater New Haven, and Kehler Liddell Gallery.
