Announcing the winners of the Climate Crisis Poster Contest!
Reimagining New Haven in the Era of Climate Change, a grassroots environmental group, today announced the winners of the Climate Crisis Poster Contest. The three winners, all students, will have their posters displayed in street-side display cases in New Haven’s neighborhoods. The city is making the display cases available gratis.
The winning artists are: Aliannette Lebron of High School in the Community; Rosie Hampson of Wilbur Cross High School; and Nailah Huq of Southern Connecticut State University. Each winner will receive a $500 prize.
An awards ceremony will be held on Saturday, April 8, at 2 p.m. at Lyric Hall, 827 Whalley Avenue, New Haven. In addition to the contest winners, two teams of participants will be recognized as honorable mentions. They are Lila Kleppner, Sneha Maskey and Lena Zenisek from Wilbur Cross High School; and Ranya Tarabar and Zoe Arboleda, also of Wilbur Cross. Each team will receive $250.
In addition to the awards ceremony, Reimagining New Haven will announce the release and distribution of its Local Climate Action Guide and special guests will speak about the local impact of climate change. They will include Steven Winter, executive director of New Haven’s Office of Climate and Sustainability; and John Cavaliere, owner of Lyric Hall, who has had to deal with frequent flooding—a harbinger of New Haven’s future in the era of climate change.
We welcome the press; the poster contest participants and their families and friends; and others interested in addressing the local impacts of climate change.
