Plein-Air Painting Workshop With Chris Ferguson
Join artist Chris Ferguson for this weekend plein-air painting workshop. Class will meet from 2-5pm on Saturday, September 28th and Sunday, September 29th. Participants will meet at Kehler Liddell Gallery (873 Whalley Avenue), and then head over to Edgewood Park. No experience necessary. Most supplies included (see below for detailed list).
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP: In this plein-air – (French for outdoors) – workshop, participants will learn the skills to paint directly from life. Painting from direct observation vs. a photograph requires seeing and painting in very different ways. Participants will use the oil medium to capture what they see, simplifying and translating the seemingly-endless amounts of information in their surroundings onto the canvas by focusing the composition, value and color. Participants will also learn how to work with the challenges that come from painting out in the elements. This workshop is open to all skill levels, from beginners and hobbyists, to those with ample experience.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Chris Ferguson remembers enjoying drawing ever since he was a small child. During high school, he attended E.C.A. (Educational Center for the Arts) in New Haven, CT, an experience that he says allowed him to explore his creativity in new ways. He then went on to earn a degree in Illustration from Paier College of Art in Hamden, CT, with the intention of embarking on a career in children's book illustration. However, he quickly realized his heart belonged to fine art, and has been painting and exhibiting his work for the last 20+ years. His work has been shown in local venues in and around New Haven, including DaSilva Gallery and Kehler Liddell Gallery. Currently, his primary focus is on local scenery and landscapes.
NOTE: Participants sign up for the full weekend workshop. The total class fee is $20 for the entire session, including basic supplies listed above.
