Noam Chomsky is widely regarded as one of the most important public intellectuals alive. Join Reference and Adult Services staff member Isaac Shub as they discuss current events, Chomsky's latest work, and his long career as linguist, philosopher, and political activist.

Chomsky is Institute Professor emeritus in the Department of Linguistics and Philosophy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Laureate Professor at the University of Arizona. His work is widely credited with revolutionizing the field of linguistics as well as helping to originate the academic study of cognitive science, notably with his critique of the behaviorist approach of B.F. Skinner. Chomsky is the author of numerous best-selling political works which have been translated into scores of languages worldwide. Recent books include What Kind of Creatures Are We?Optimism Over Despair, and Internationalism or Extinction. In 2021, with colleague Marv Waterstone, he published Consequences of CapitalismManufacturing Discontent and Resistance.
