June 3, 2015, The New Haven Independent, by Stephanie Addenbrooke-"When lawmakers voted on New Haven’s new city budget, someone had reason to cheer: City Librarian Martha Brogan, whose team’s lobbying efforts-a mixture of social media and old-fashioned bring-out-supporters-in-person-led to the creation of four new full-time positions. It was the library system’s first budget increase after years of cutbacks.Brogan (pictured above) said the new four positions will

May 29, 2015, The New Haven Independent, by Markeshia Ricks - “Do not smirk,” snapped the developer. “I sat here and respectfully listened to your presentation, Matt.” “I’m not smirking,” responded the city’s development chief. “Yes, you are.” “Look, this design is a generic unit B that I can find 800 times when I search Google images and it is an insult. May 12, 2015, The New Haven Independent, by David Sepulveda - There was a buzz in the air. Visitors were coming, lots of them. Like a family hosting out-of-town guests, Westville’s community engine of businesses, residents, and volunteers revved up to roll out the neighborhood’s annual Artwalk festival, held over Mother’s Day weekend. In the opening hours of the festival, energetic children took to the soft bed of mulch that had been spread over an empty sand lot where Delaney’s Restaurant once stood.

Since then the lot has lain vacant as the property’s owner, Ronald Groves, and Delaney’s operator Peter Gresme haggled with insurers and sought to build a new version of Delaney’s.
May 9, 2015, The New Haven Independent, Allan Appel - Salsa’s coming to Westville—not the sauce, but the equally spicy Afro-Caribbean rhythms of Alisa’s House of Salsa. Alisa Bowens, the founder of the award-winning dance studio, announced this week that she is moving her long-established business from its Chapel Street home for the last 15 years to new digs at 912 Whalley Ave., at the corner of Blake Street. Bowens shows off her new keys with Project Storefront’s Slomba. “She’s not moving out.
May 11, 2015, The New Haven Independent, by Paul Bass - This locust tree has another week to remain standing—before it and a couple of dozen other orange-tagged aboreal Edgewood Park denizens get the axe. United Illuminating is clearing them as part of broader improvements to Westville’s electric grid. The 35 or so trees in the park were supposed to start coming down this week.
